Twin Peaks — Fairfield
ALTERATION & ADDITION
A modern family home that honours heritage and embraces contemporary living.
Located in a quiet street among quality renovated homes, this project transformed a classic Californian Bungalow into a spacious, modern family sanctuary. The original façade has been meticulously restored, preserving key features such as the entry, two front bedrooms and the formal living room with its signature bay window, while subtle new interventions bring fresh flow and functionality.
A new garage along the western boundary is finished in concealed black vertical cladding, contrasting with the original brickwork and connecting seamlessly to the contemporary rear additions. Removal of the 1970s extension allowed the home to be reimagined with a twin-gable design, maximising natural light through high north-facing highlight windows and fully utilising the generous 18.90m site width.
The layout separates parents’ and children’s zones, with a lower connecting roofline accommodating a compact study and laundry. A glazed hallway frames views of the landscaped garden, drawing the outdoors inside.
At the rear, expansive glazing, a raked ceiling and generous highlight windows create a bright, open living area. The galley-style kitchen with large island and butler’s pantry flows effortlessly to the outdoor entertaining and BBQ area, seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor spaces.
The family room is light-filled, tranquil, and anchored by a Cheminees Philippe wood fireplace. Dark exterior tones complement the lush gardens, allowing the architecture to sit naturally within its landscape - a perfect balance of heritage charm and contemporary style.
